What Is Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing?
A Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test (CPET) is a non-invasive gold standard assessment of aerobic fitness. CPET assesses exercise capacity by looking at how an individual’s heart and lungs are able to cope with the increasing demand of incremental exercise.
Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing for athletes
This test offers you an insight into the effectiveness of your training programmes.
CPET can identify two key performance metrics: the VO2 Max, a marker of ‘fitness’ and the anaerobic threshold, an important metric for endurance training and identifying accurate heart rate training zones. Despite the proven benefit of CPET in guiding physical training, there is limited access available especially with oversite by clinical specialists.
Vo2 Yorkshire aims to change this by offering individual CPET testing at affordable prices.
The test is undertaken under the guidance of an Anaesthetic Consultant, therefore enabling you to push yourself to your maximum safely; they will also take you through your bespoke report answering any questions you may have.
The test is conducted on an exercise bike and will last an hour, through this time increased resistance will be applied to ensure you are physically pushed to your limits. Your heart rate and oxygen saturation will be continuously monitored by the team and a report produced for you at the end.
