I trained at Leeds Medical School, qualifying in 1979. I subsequently trained in Nottingham as a Senior House Officer and Registrar and in Birmingham as a Senior Registrar. I was first a consultant for six years in Scarborough before moving to Harrogate in 2000.
I have broad experience in elective and emergency Gastrointestinal and General Surgery. In addition I have a major interest in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, having done around 20,000 upper GI endoscopies and 8,000 colonoscopies over the last 35 years.
I have been the Lead Cancer Clinician for Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust for the last 15 years and I am joint Endoscopy Lead. I am also the Clinical Director of the Harrogate, Leeds and York Bowel Cancer Screening Centre, a post I have held since its inception in 2009.
